As someone who put off reading the selection series for so long because I thought it was exactly what you said in the video, I was so wrong. The social and political commentary in that series along with the little spin-off of their daughter is absurdly good for a series that was only described as ‘the bachelor for royalty’ for *years*. No one told me about the rebels and abuse and massacre that’s in it. Like obviously there are points that are absolutely absurd and sometimes characters are purposefully insufferable, but it’s still such a good series

I think my *favorite* moment from what you talked about was when he realized that he'd "fallen in love but she had just done what women do" which is change his priorities and he changed his schedule and took her on vacations and whatever she wanted to do, when so many times she kept saying *no* to him about that stuff. I haven't read the book, but like, bro, you did that???

After reading the book what made me mad was basically one thing: Rowan is never really sorry, he is always "I'm sorry buuut actually I may be a bit right". He was NEVER really sorry, not for real. Never a completely sincere apology. My proud self was sooooo mad for that.

I don't really like romance genre and hate romcom with a passion, maybe that's why I always like when the romance is sad, is a tearjerker or doesn't even have a HEA endings (although it won't fit in the genre anymore) 😂

I’m nearly done reading powerless and I also really disliked the names given to the elite. I just thought it lacked creativity and didn’t want to even read it afterwards. I know its supposed to be enemies to lovers but it didn’t feel like enemies to lovers. I do admit that some of the lines that lauren roberts wrote had me gagged and kicking my feet a little bit. I wish that there were more of the story instead of every scene with kai and paedyn constantly flirting. I feel like the story tried too hard. However I am enjoying it a little more than I had before.

A short story that I really like and that everyone should read is "Continuity of Parks" by Julio Cortázar. It may not cover deep topics like some of the others you read in this video, but it's still great. It's also only a page or two long, so it's really a short story.

"'They cut away pieces of me,' she whispered in the darkness. 'But I handed them the knife.'" Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly is my favorite retelling of Cinderella. It's about the 'ugly' stepsisters and their lives after Cinderella gets her happy ending and how they navigate being outcasts by the kingdom, their injury, and how and why they did wrong with Cinderella.

I've read ,,The Giver'' for class and it was the first time that a book for school had me hooked like this. It is really really good. (the movie is trash tho and has little to nothing to do with the book idk what they did there). We've read another dystopian(-ish?) book called ,,Never let me go'' and gosh. That was the most depressing book I've ever read and I hated every second lol. The movie is equaly depressing. Theres another dystopian(-ish? .. its just not the typical futuristic dystopian trope but gives of very dystopian vibes) book I've read and really enjoyed was ,,Numbers''. I liked the setting and the idea of being able to see peoples time of death.

The comment at the end from Snow that it is what we love most that will destroy us is poignantly true. The mark of a good or evil person is whether they stand by what they love the most as it is destroying them. I think this movie is brilliant as is the novel in that it is so thought provoking.

I am absolutely obsessed with "Emily Wilde's", its the first book (especially tiktok book) in a very long time that made me enjoy reading! From the first experience with the character you do feel a very distinct voice, I mean it feels like you're really reading someone's journal. The setting is gorgeous and comfy, the characters immensely enjoyable, and the romance aspect was perfection. Their extensive history together makes it feel like it's well developed, even if we don't get to experience much of it. I loved, loved, loved this book and agree with everything you mentioned ^^

28:42 I thought that in the book Snow gave her the container (his mother's compact) for the rat poison, but that he didn't actually ever tell her to get the poison. He obviously implied it, but he himself was not the one who picked it up and gave it to her (the rat poison was littered around the cage where the tributes were kept and Snow didn't have access to it after Arachne was killed iirc). He simply provided Lucy Gray a method thru which to obtain and bring the poison into the arena and nudged her in that direction, and she was astute enough to pick up on that and take advantage because she wanted to survive. I'm not saying she wanted to kill anyone in the arena (she clearly avoided it at all costs), but I don't think that without the rat poison she would have refused to kill another tribute entirely, or not found another clever way to bring about one or more of their demises.
